‘We believe that the CS rate is not an outcome and certainly not an adverse one. It should not be used to measure the success or otherwise of units or obstetricians. CS is part of the process to facilitate a birth that is safe for baby and mother. Arguably no other surgical procedure has saved so many lives world wide, but women and babies are still dying because surgical delivery is not undertaken, The majority of women who undergo CS, would not have chosen this mode of delivery and the few that do, chose it in the belief that it is the safest option for their babies and themselves. All too often women feel they have failed if they have a CS. We hope that by celebrating Cesarean sections will can counteract these negative attitudes about an operation that has saved so many lives around the world’
